"Graduation Fees" are starting to be more and more common among institutions. There is a lot of expense that goes into making that day a special one for students and their families. My personal opinion is that graduation fees should probably be dropped to the wayside or blended into the cost of tuition. Schools that charge graduation fees to their outgoing students are certainly not rolling out the red carpet for the potential donor dollars that could come back from these students. Also, it just seems like another instance of nickel and diming.

I had to pay a "graduation" fee to receive my diploma despite the fact that I did not plan to attend graduation (I was 9 months pregnant!). When I inquired about the so-called mandatory fee, I was told that it covered the University's associated cost from the graduation day activities. Bologna! Not many colleges charge this fee, as they shouldn't.
