It is not very often that you see an opportunity for a free MBA cross your doorstep. If you are fortunate, you hopefully work for an employer that may help to subsidize the expense associated with your graduate work. However, if you are not that lucky, I would suggest looking into the free MBA opportunity being provided by Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee.

This year, Lipscomb will be fulfilling the financial dreams of one happy student by offering them a full scholarship to their Graduate School of Business. The scholarship (currently valued at $40,000) will cover all of the tuition expenses associated with the degree completion program of your choosing. All of these programs can be completed in as little as 12 months but the scholarship offer will remain in effect for 2 years – allowing you ample time to complete your degree.

As you can imagine, in order to be considered for this amazing opportunity, there are a few requirements:

You need to apply and be accepted to the graduate business program

You need to submit a video (no more than 2 minutes in length) that would reflect your personal story and answer the following questions:

How you are one degree away from making a difference in the world

How an MBA, PMBA, MAcc or MHR from Lipscomb University’s Graduate Studies in Business would your impact life and that of others

Why you should be the one to receive the One Degree Away From Making A Difference Scholarship from the Lipscomb University Graduate Studies in Business

Video needs to be submitted by June 15th

Need help in creating your video? Here are some resources to help you out:

Sample Video

“Now, more than ever, there is a need for people who want to impact their communities positively. Individuals with big dreams and leadership aspirations, who just need the knowledge and skills to get there, can change the world around them,” said Turney Stevens, dean of the Lipscomb University College of Business. “We also understand that many graduate program candidates are juggling a career and family and that the cost of pursuing an advanced degree can be overwhelming. So this competition will help one future leader pursue this path with a full-tuition scholarship for a graduate business program.”

At CheapScholar.org, we support students in finding ways to access education by the most affordable means possible. We are pleased to highlight this wonderful scholarship opportunity provided by Lipscomb University.

Please don’t hesitate to forward this information onto anyone that you think may be interested in achieving an MBA on full scholarship. In addition, if you have questions about this scholarship, Lipscomb has put together a great resource of Frequently Asked Questions.

CheapScholar.org was founded in January of 2010 and a number of amazing things have happened since that first informative article (Now Introducing The Sleeker, Newer, Updated FAFSA!). The following represent a few notable moments for me and CheapScholar.org:

Over the course of the past three years, I have had the opportunity to share over four hundred articles with our readers

CheapScholar’s College Resource Center has helped thousands upon thousands of readers find the answers that they need on topics related to the financial aspect of their college experience

CheapScholar had a very meager beginning with just a couple hundred visitors in the first month. Now the site is welcoming tens of thousands pageviews each month

Our Find Scholarships page has become a “go to” resource for students/families looking for outside scholarship dollars

CheapScholar.org recently rolled out a free resource for Guidance Counselors that provides them with tools and information to help the students and families in which they serve

One of the greatest accomplishments that CheapScholar.org achieved this last week is awarding our first “How Do You Make College Cheaper?” scholarship. It has always been my goal to help students make their way to college through the information and resources provided here on CheapScholar.org but I also wanted to help by providing financial support via a scholarship. This year I was able to make that happen. And, based upon the number of entries, the positive feedback received, and the good will generated, I plan on continuing the scholarship giveaway in subsequent years. So Enter Today!

I am pleased to announce that Lauren Downs is the 2012 scholarship recipient. Ms. Downs is doing wonderful things as a Junior at Ohio University and I hope this scholarship gets her one step closer to achieving her educational goals.

If you would like to learn more about Lauren, please take a moment to read through the bio she submitted to us to share with our readers. As you will see, this year’s scholarship found a good home with Lauren.

Lauren Downs (2012 Scholarship Recipient)

I am in my third year of college at Ohio University with a major in Nursing. I graduated high school as co-valedictorian of the poorest school district in Ohio, in a rural Appalachian town. I still live with my parents, commuting about half an hour to classes and over an hour to clinicals. I have two brothers and two sisters, and the best family you could ask for. My boyfriend of 5 years is an Army Infantryman, about to be deployed … again. I wouldn’t trade my small-town country life for the world. In my spare time (when I don’t have my nose in my Med/Surg book), I play/watch sports, hunt, quilt, cross-stitch, and participate in local fundraisers. I love the Cincinnati Reds. After receiving my bachelor’s degree, I plan to work part-time as a nurse while getting my master’s degree to become a women’s health nurse practitioner. I plan to work in a small-town area, like my hometown, where health care is not readily accessible. I also dream of having a horse ranch, and using it as a sort of therapeutic day care for mentally disabled adults/children. I am so very thankful for this scholarship, which will greatly help with my college expenses!! GO BOBCATS!!!

Out of those two options, “Brain Gain” is the one that is sought after most. Basically, it refers to attracting/retaining your most talented and educated students from within your community after college graduation so that they can contribute to positive initiatives and provide momentum on forward thinking projects. “Brain Drain” on the hand , which is not ideal, reflects when your best and brightest find opportunities elsewhere and leave your community and take their talent with them.

In an effort to help maintain the “Brain Gain” momentum in the great state of Ohio, Mike Chapman’s college consulting firm Chapman College Admission Consulting LLC is sponsoring the Ohio Here To Stay Scholarship opportunity. CheapScholar.org is proud to be a partner in this great initiative.

The Ohio Here To Stay Scholarship is a $5,000 scholarship that will be awarded to a current Ohio high school junior who commits to enrolling at one of Ohio’s four-year colleges beginning in Fall 2013 and pledges to work or attend graduate school in Ohio upon graduating from college. The scholarship is meant to recognize and reward a student who is truly passionate about being an Ohioan and will contribute their talents and abilities to Ohio while in college and beyond.

To be considered for the scholarship, students need to create and submit a two minute or less video showcasing why and how they are passionate about Ohio. The top five videos will be posted online on this webpage from June 1, 2012 through August 1, 2012 and the video that receives the most votes during the voting time period will be declared the winner. The top five videos will be selected according to the following criteria:

Exhibition of a genuine passion for being an Ohioan.

How well the video displays applicant’s potential to make a significant contribution to the state of Ohio in college and beyond.

Creativity and ability to think “outside the box.”

Usage of online social networks to encourage people to view the video.

Adherence to contest rules including but not limited to video content and length.

Deadline for entry is May 1st and additional details can be found here. If you know any Ohio high school students that are planning to go to a 4 year college (in Ohio), please feel free to utilize the share tab below to pass this information onto them.

The intent of the scholarship is to provide Ohio women with the opportunity to achieve their full potential through education.

This scholarship program has been in existence for a good number of years and in 1988 it was converted to an endowment fund that will insure its presence for many years to come. One caveat to this scholarship that is very appealing is that non-traditional (more “seasoned” adult students) are eligible to receive funds from this program.

Here are the eligibility requirements:

Traditional Student Applicants
1. Women who will graduate or have graduated from an Ohio high school or who have
received a GED from the Ohio Board of Education prior to July 1st.
2. Must be a United States citizen.
3. Undergraduates who meet the above criteria and are enrolled as full-time students at an
accredited degree-granting institution recognized by a state Board of Regents

Non-traditional Student Applicants
1. Women who are residents of Ohio and are at least 30 years old as of April 1st.
2. Must be a United States citizen.
3. Undergraduates who meet the above criteria and are enrolled at an accredited
degree-granting institution recognized by a state Board of Regents.
a. Applicant need not be a full-time student.

Scholarship applications are available starting in January and they must be submitted (postmarked) before March 1st.

You can receive an application by sending an email to the following: allenendowment@gmail.com

If you know of anyone that could benefit from this scholarship program, please be sure to utilize the share tab below to pass this information along to them. In the meantime, feel free to visit CheapScholar’s “Find Scholarships!” page for more resources…

They provide all the same services found in the more traditional bank settings but since they are owned and operated by the community members in which they serve, they bring a more comforting element to the table.

As you move forward in the college search process and start looking for outside scholarships, you will definitely want to drop a line to your local credit union to see if they have anything available. You may be surprised.

KEMBA Financial Credit Union located in Columbus, Ohio is celebrating their 20th year of providing college scholarships to their members. This year they are giving away $2,000 to one lucky member.

Here are the details regarding eligibility:

You have to be a member of the credit union (which is easily accomplished by any of the following)

Live, work, or worship in Franklin, Delaware, Logan, Madison, Sylvania Counties in Ohio

Be employed by a participating KEMBA partner company

Have a family member that is already a member

Become a member of Angie’s List Association, Ohio Nurse’s Association, or Columbus Board of Realtors

Be at least a High School Senior

Be enrolled or planning to attend an accredited college/university

Going full-time (at least two courses)

If you meet the above criteria, you can download an application from KEMBA here. You will have to answer an essay question but it is a fairly easy one: How can strong money management skills help an individual establish a stable financial future?

The deadline is January 27th. Good Luck!

If you need additional assistance with finding outside scholarships, please be sure to check out CheapScholar’s Scholarship Resource Page.

CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange) has long since been known in the college sector as a leading provider of study abroad opportunities for students. They have been sending students abroad since 1947 and boast having over 140 programs established in 42 countries. Based upon this, it is only natural for people to use study abroad and CIEE together in the same sentence when they are looking at educational opportunities overseas.

CIEE is so committed to their study abroad programs that they are offering a million dollars of scholarship aid this coming summer for students in financial need. It is being referred to as the GAIN program (Global Access Initiative) and it will provide grants and scholarships to students regardless of whether they are taking study abroad programs for a full year, a single semester, or during the summer. At this time, the GAIN program is committing an additional million dollars to this program each and every year. So, if you are not planning on studying abroad for a couple of years, this still could be a great option for you to help fund that educational experience.

Additional details about the program (including the application process) will be announced this coming summer (2012). You can visit CIEE’s scholarship page for additional information as it becomes available or you can always email them at studyinfo@ciee.org

Studying abroad during your college years is a great learning experience. Being exposed to different cultures really helps you to develop a big picture approach to life. I hope these additional resources provided by CIEE help to make your dreams of studying abroad a reality.

Get $5,000 for your college education and $5,000 for the hunger related charity of your choice. This is definitely a win-win opportunity for you and your favorite charity. If you are active in your community, helping to promote awareness, and enabling others to be catalysts for innovative models and solutions to eliminate hunger in America, you should definitely apply for this scholarship provided by the Sodexho Foundation.

This scholarship program began back in 2007 and has provided thousands of dollars to students and their charities over the years. What is really amazing is that this scholarship is available for all students (kindergarten through graduate school). Students under the age of 18 will need to have a 529 college savings plan in place so that their funds can be properly deposited. Past winners can be seen here.

Here are the criteria and guidelines for the scholarship:

All applicants must be enrolled in an accredited educational institution (kindergarten through graduate school) in the United States.

All applicants must have demonstrated on-going commitment to their community by performing unpaid volunteer services impacting hunger in the United States within the last 12 months.

All applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

Volunteer services performed by applicant must help non-family members.

If applicant is selected as a potential national Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Scholarship recipient or regional Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Honoree, in order to be confirmed as a winner, the student’s parent or legal guardian must sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and Assignment of Rights.

Scholarship funds awarded to winners must be used for tuition and related fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses at an accredited post-secondary education institution.

Applications must be received before December 5th.

Some unique attributes for the scholarship program:

The foundation may select up to five national scholarship recipients (at the $5k level); however, they reserve the right to select fewer than five national winners.

The foundation may select up to 20 regional Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Honorees and each will receive $1k to be granted to their favorite hunger related charity.

Employees of the Sodexo Foundation and Sodexo, Inc. are not eligible

Applicants must obtain a Community Service Recommendation as part of the application process.

Scholarship recipients will be notified by March, and a list of all winners will be posted on www.sodexofoundation.org by June.
