Get $5,000 for your college education and $5,000 for the hunger related charity of your choice. This is definitely a win-win opportunity for you and your favorite charity. If you are active in your community, helping to promote awareness, and enabling others to be catalysts for innovative models and solutions to eliminate hunger in America, you should definitely apply for this scholarship provided by the Sodexho Foundation.
This scholarship program began back in 2007 and has provided thousands of dollars to students and their charities over the years. What is really amazing is that this scholarship is available for all students (kindergarten through graduate school). Students under the age of 18 will need to have a 529 college savings plan in place so that their funds can be properly deposited. Past winners can be seen here.
Here are the criteria and guidelines for the scholarship:
All applicants must be enrolled in an accredited educational institution (kindergarten through graduate school) in the United States.
All applicants must have demonstrated on-going commitment to their community by performing unpaid volunteer services impacting hunger in the United States within the last 12 months.
All applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
Volunteer services performed by applicant must help non-family members.
If applicant is selected as a potential national Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Scholarship recipient or regional Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Honoree, in order to be confirmed as a winner, the student’s parent or legal guardian must sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and Assignment of Rights.
Scholarship funds awarded to winners must be used for tuition and related fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses at an accredited post-secondary education institution.
Applications must be received before December 5th.
Some unique attributes for the scholarship program:
The foundation may select up to five national scholarship recipients (at the $5k level); however, they reserve the right to select fewer than five national winners.
The foundation may select up to 20 regional Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Honorees and each will receive $1k to be granted to their favorite hunger related charity.
Employees of the Sodexo Foundation and Sodexo, Inc. are not eligible
Applicants must obtain a Community Service Recommendation as part of the application process.
Scholarship recipients will be notified by March, and a list of all winners will be posted onwww.sodexofoundation.org by June.

Remember… all you have to do is answer the following question via one or all three of the methods provided (Facebook, Twitter, Email). Each response counts as an entry. It really is that easy…
Social media has been growing by leaps and bounds the past few years. I remember at one time thinking that Twitter was certainly going to be a fad and quickly disappear from the radar of college students nationwide as something “better” came along (Google+ maybe?). Fortunately for my online world, Twitter is alive and well in the social media-sphere.
Twitter is indeed thriving but did you ever imagine that your tweeting could land you a full tuition scholarship to a great college? I never did but apparently the University of Iowa’s MBA program is providing the opportunity for one lucky twitterer to get free tuition. All you have to do is submit your answer to “What makes you an exceptional Tippie Full-time MBA candidate and future MBA hire?” in proper tweet form (140 characters or less) to the University of Iowa’s MBA recruiting/admission office via email at tippiemba@uiowa.edu You also need to include a resume…
As always, there are some rules and details that apply:
Submit application before July 28, 2011 to be considered.
Applicants will not be admitted to the program based solely on their Application Tweet. Applicants need to meet typical admissions criteria.
Because of time constraints involved with obtaining a student visa for the fall semester, this is open only to U.S. residents or U.S. permanent residents.
All applicants who submit a response will have their application fee waived.
The candidate with the most inventive and creative submission will be awarded a full-tuition award package for Fall 2011. Tippie’s full-tuition award packages are valued at $37,240.
The winner will be announced on August 4, 2011 on Tippie’s Facebook and Twitteraccounts. The chosen candidate will be notified by phone before the formal announcement is made.
Also, in good twitter fashion, don’t forget that you can use URL shortening services (like tinyurl.com) to link to other social media outlets (YouTube/Blogs/Etc…) to help make your application standout.
So, if you have been thinking about getting your MBA and cost has been a limiting factor, you may want to put your tweeting skills to the test and give the University of Iowa’s scholarship contest a whirl.
