We all know that the cost of college is a moving target. Some of your charges are billed directly from the school, some are offset by financial aid, and some are added “soft-costs” that you pick up along the way. It is hard to figure out the exact expense that your checkbook will absorb over the 4 year span but the following info-graphic helps to shed light on some of the more common non-tuition education expenses that you will experience (click on the picture for the full-size version):
“The average student spends $2600/year on beer?” That statistic out of them all seems, to me, the hardest to believe! If so, then it makes all the fuss over rising tuition seem like a non-issue. $2600 would go a long way toward actual, important college expenses, right?
Cheers,
Tia
Tia – I thought $2600 seemed pretty high as well but then I broke it down and realized that it is only $50 a week. Some students spend that in a single night… crazy!? 😉
“Only” If you’re spending $50 a week on beer at college (1)you are under age and should not be drinking and (2) Your parents are giving you way too much free money. If you were earning that cash you would not be blowing it on beer. Sounds like a good argument for living at home. ;I
Alcohol, entertainment, sporting events, cell phones, spring break? These are luxuries for overly entitled teens, not legitimate college expenses.
