How Are You Like Ronald Reagan? College Scholarship

Whether you are a Republican, Democrat, or somewhere in-between, most people believe that Ronald Reagan was an amazing president.  Reagan started out as a radio broadcaster, went on to be a famous film and television actor and succeeded at becoming the governor of California prior to accepting his U.S. presidency in 1981.

In an effort to honor Reagan’s legacy, the Ronald Reagan Foundation has teamed up with General Electric to provide scholarship opportunities for college bound students. The program will provide $10,000 scholarships for up to twenty students each year. In addition, this scholarship is renewable, so there is potential for a student to receive a total of $40,000 over their college career.

Erin Korsvall is the program officer for the scholarship foundation and she states “a successful candidate should display exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship in all aspects of life. Like President Reagan, candidates use their formative experiences of their youth to lead, serve, and pursue a life of progress, both individually and for their communities.”

The following are some additional requirements that candidates must meet to be considered for this scholarship:

  • Be nominated by an eligible community leader (eligible leaders include high school principals, elected officials, or directors of nonprofit organizations)
  • Maintain a GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be a recent High School graduate or graduate candidate
  • Use the funds disbursed by the scholarship program for tuition, room, and board while pursuing a bachelor’s degree at an accredited U.S. college or university

  1. Our nation needs a president like Ronald Reagan in the White House today.

  2. Tia says:

We posted about this scholarship when it was first announced. I think it’s really unique and hope that students will take their chances with it.

    • Thank you for the comment Tia. Always good to hear from you. I was a young man when Ronald Reagan was in office so I don’t remember much about him (other than what I read in the history books)but I do know that a lot of people supported him and still refer to his presidency as establishing a benchmark for all other presidents to reflect upon. It is nice to to see a substantial scholarship program being initiated in his honor.
